Working in three, one-hour rounds, local artists gather in the High Museum’s Robinson Atrium to create original art on the spot using the media of their choice.
Onlookers can grab a drink, sway to the beats of DJ Teknology, stake out a favorite artist, and eagerly await the finished masterpieces. Wieland Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Michael Rooks will serve as emcee, counting down to the final seconds of each round as the artists furiously complete their creations.
And then the real fun begins …
Each artwork is then auctioned off for $75 — a steal for original art from some of Atlanta’s finest artists. Watch the frenzy as fans eagerly follow the piece they’ve been eyeing from its creation to the bidding table.
If more than one visitor wants a particular artwork, a deck of playing cards is pulled out to determine the outcome. The lucky winner is also contributing to a worthy cause: all proceeds from the rally will directly fund the High’s acquisition of artworks made by Georgia-based artists.
Join us on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. to experience Monster Drawing Rally.
